ABOUT US

Where is the Club?
We meet at Chickerell Primary Academy, Rashley Road, Weymouth. DT4 4 AT every Saturday morning between 10.30 and 12.30, unless otherwise engaged in offsite activities. We are in the single story building on the left of the car park as you enter. Please use the car park freely.

Who is the club for?
The Club is for children aged 5 and over, with an Autism Related Condition (ASC), and their families. We serve the Dorset area and parents come from Weymouth, Dorchester, Blandford, Bridport and surrounding areas. All families are welcome who want to meet others who are also living with ASC. We pride ourselves on offering a safe yet stimulating non - judgemental environment for children with an ASC.

When you say 'Families', what do you mean?
We are providing a place where whole families can come along and socialise with each other, and join in the activities if you want to. Refreshments are provided weekly too. We are very keen that brothers and sisters of ASC children feel able to come along. Not only can you take part in activities if you wish, you can also socialise with other children who have autistic siblings.

Who funds the Club?
We are constantly looking for continuing funding from a range of sources and a small fee. This fee helps cover the cost of materials and building hire. The first visit is free of charge so come along and see whether the group and its activities are of interest to you.

The group is run by a management committee and a steering committee who make up all of the parents/carers who pay subscriptions in advance.

What sort of activities will happen at the Club?
Many and varied. Our guideline is to provide activities which happen at a pace and level to suit the needs of the members, i.e. the ASC children and young adults. Our ideas include: Bingo fun, parachute games, Fish & Chip lunches, various outings such as a day trip to London, games console facilities, craft activities like making cards for seasonal events such as Christmas and Mother's Day, treasure hunts, basic cooking, board games...football and outside games run every week. See our activities page for upcoming events.
We always welcome suggestions for activities from children and parents alike. Parents are also encouraged to attend our quarterly steering committee meetings to discuss all matters relating to A-Stars.
